February 2019 - Join in the free feathered fun this half term

Bird Aware Solent have teamed up with some fantastic locations and associations to lay on lots of fun-packed events this half term. 

Kicking off on the Isle of Wight on Monday 18th February 2019, Fort Victoria Country Park hosts a 'Love your Coast' event.  Alongside the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, join Bird Aware Solent for this free event.  Whether you fancy trying coastal bird spotting, searching rock pools or playing aquatic themed games, start your half term with a marine Monday!  Get involved from 11am until 3pm.

On Tuesday, Lepe Country Park in the New Forest are holding a fun-filled Bird Awareness Day.  Bird Aware and Lepe Rangers will be playing bird inspired games and demonstrating how to build a bird box.  You'll also have the opportunity to spot some wonderful birds through a telescope and practice your identification skills.  Come and join us at this a free event from 10.30am until 2.30pm - everyone is welcome! (Please note bird box building incurs an additional fee.)

Wednesday 20th sees a fantastic event happening at the River Hamble Country Park, near Southampton.  Bird Aware Solent will be laying on an exciting bird trail, where you will have the chance to win some fab prizes.  Bring along your canine friends to try out the agility course and win a Bird Aware bandana!  The activities start at 11am until 3pm and it's free, so come on down and join in the fun!

Join us again on Friday 22nd for the 'Bird Bonanza' family fun day at the Hayling Island Lifeboat Station.  This is a free event that starts at 10am for two hours.  Come along to take part in lots of exhilarating bird themed games and activities led by rangers, wildlife officers and bird enthusiasts.  Make sure you visit every stall to enter a prize draw for a trip on the solar boat!

Councillor Se├ín Woodward, Chairman of the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire, which oversees Bird Aware Solent observes, 'It's great for children and parents that such a range of events are happening across the Solent.  They create wonderful opportunities to have fun and learn about the local wildlife along the way.  All the organisations involved are really important to our communities and the events are perfect for people to see different things happening in their area.'
