Sandwich Tern

What am I?

I am Britain's largest tern.

Where do I come from?

I travel to the Solent from the coast of West Africa.

A bit about me

I always wear my trusted black cap and you will see me plunging into the waves in search of small fish such as sand eel and sprat. I'm quite noisy and compared to the other tern species I am much bigger; people often mistake me for a gull because I'm big, white and at the beach!

Fun fact

I'm named after Sandwich Bay in Kent.

Conservation status

I'm  amber listed in the UK .

Im not a SPA (Special Protection Area) bird, but you still might see me whilst you are on the coast!
