April 2020 - Local nature Partnership offers home schooling ideas

Celebrities like Joe Wicks, Carol Vorderman and Chris Packham have all been busy lending a hand with home-schooling, and now Bird Aware Solent, a Partnership that covers the Isle of Wight and Solent region, have got involved too.

The Bird Aware team have put together an idea-packed webpage that will get the kids up close to nature and even get them up early in the morning to listen to a dawn chorus!  The website now offers lots of activities to aid parents who have recently been cast into the world of teaching and are looking for inspiration and support.

Activities such as, making a home for wildlife, looking for animal tracks and creating a nature-themed wordsearch have all been added.  The page also includes links to education resources from organisations such as the RSPB, the Wildlife Trusts and the Winchester Science Centre.  Bird Aware Rangers also play fun games at events, and to help everyone recreate this at home, a download pack and video has been added.  Watch the video here -

Councillor Se├ín Woodward is Chairman of the Partnership for South Hampshire (PfSH), a body that oversees Bird Aware, adds, 'Home schooling has provided a unique opportunity for us to help our children whilst learning new things along the way.  Bird Aware's webpage is really useful, it provides varied things to do with kids of all ages.'

Bird Aware helps to protect the future of birds such as oystercatcher and dunlin with a team of Rangers that talk to people about the birds, along the Solent and the Isle of Wight.
