June 2021 - Proud in partnership - Bird Aware Solent supports a national award win

Bird Aware Solent is delighted to see that another major project they have partnered with along the Solent coastline has won a national award.

The Warblington Farm Nature Reserve - established by Havant Borough Council in September 2021 has won gold, clinching the "Planning and the natural environment" category at the national Planning Awards. Part of a package to mitigate against additional nutrients on our shoreline, Bird Aware Solent was a partner in this important project with Havant Borough Council, Solent LEP and Natural England.

This is not a unique project - Bird Aware Solent has made use of Growth Deal funding to support a range of projects across the Solent coastline to benefit the birds and the public's opportunity to enjoy them. Additionally, it has also helped provide alternative natural space for the public to enjoy limiting their impact on areas of our coastline where endangered birds are particularly reliant for food.

From Shoreburs Greenway in Southampton providing nature trails and walks away from some critical coastline to River Hamble Country Park in Bursledon providing recreation, community  and dog walking space, Bird Aware Solent has been investing in projects that provide positive change for the region.

Councillor Seán Woodward, Chairman of the Partnership for South Hampshire (PfSH), the organisation that oversees Bird Aware Solent, said "We're delighted to see Havant Borough Council's nutrient mitigation project receive the acclaim it deserves, and proud to have shown - yet again - how Bird Aware Solent continues to make a positive contribution through partnership towards major project that protect the birds reliant on the Solent coastline."
