August 2021 - Expert advice for dog owners through new partnership

A leading dog behaviouralist and an exciting new partnership including Bird Aware Solent have launched "Love dogs, love nature" - an ongoing series of videos to help dog walkers and their faithful friends enjoy their walks more without impacting on local wildlife.

Natalie Light - a Certificated Clinical Animal Behaviourist - will present a series of bitesize videos to help dog owners make their walks more fun and engaging, whilst also improving their recall and their behaviour around distractions.

The videos are spearheaded by SCCAMP - the Southern Counties Canine Access Management Partnership. As well as including Bird Aware Solent, it also includes the South Downs National Park Authority, New Forest National Park Authority, Heathland Hounds, Dorset Dogs and Devon Loves Dogs.

"We are delighted to be part of SCCAMP and to help promote ways for dogs to enjoy their walks more." said Shona Jenkins, Dog Initiatives Officer at Bird Aware Solent. "Our Solent shoreline can only benefit from the friendly advice Natalie provides; it will help reduce disturbance of birds reliant on our coast and improve the dog walking experience for all involved."

"Bird Aware Solent is proud to be part of a partnership representing wider interests across the south and south west." said Councillor Seán Woodward, Chairman of the Partnership for South Hampshire (PfSH), the organisation that oversees Bird Aware Solent. "Such partnership work not only strengthens our common messages that help protect our environment, but also shows the excellent regard Bird Aware Solent is rightly held in."
